CK Commercial achieves Baltimore Business Journal Best Place to Work Hall of Fame Status with Third Consecutive Win

CK Commercial recently achieved Best Places to Work Hall of Fame Status with its win in the Micro Company for the third year in a row.

CK Commercial was selected from over 150 nominated firms in the Baltimore area. The Best Places to Work Awards winners are recognized for going above and beyond in creating businesses where employees love to work, and the scores are based on a confidential employee survey.

CK Commercial Founder and Lead Strategist Michael Crim emphasized the importance of corporate culture and the team above all else, “We are thrilled to enter the Best Places to Work Hall of Fame with our third consecutive win. We love what we do, and since the beginning, we set out to prioritize our people above everything else. Knowing that our team members genuinely love working at CK is an unbelievable accomplishment and honor.”

CK Commercial Wins ABC Excellence in Construction Award for Douglas Realty Project

CK Commercial was honored with Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Baltimore chapter’s highest award, Excellence for the Douglas Realty Headquarters project. This 5,600 SF project won in the interior fit-out category  and features a unique combination of finishes that seamlessly blend industrial and contemporary design aesthetics.

This project was completed on an accelerated schedule and overcame several challenges, including being completed during the pandemic. Completing the project on this fast-track schedule meant that the CK team had to manage several subs working in conjunction with one another while maintaining the COVID safety protocols that were in place. CK also had to manage long lead times, which included waiting 12-14 weeks for the county permits. 

The permit delays coupled with some material delays at the height of COVID created a challenge in which CK had to think outside of the box to sequence work to ensure that inspections were made on time to maintain the schedule.CK worked to ensure that although the project schedule encountered challenges, these challenges did not hinder the overall finished space.

The Cybrary Headquarters project wins an ABC Metro Washington Excellence in Construction Award

CK Commercial received an ABC Metro Washington Excellence in Construction Award in the Interiors category for the Cybrary Headquarters Project.  The ABC Excellence in Construction Awards recognizes and celebrates outstanding projects for their quality and workmanship. The success of this project was attributable to the collaborative approach of the entire team, including  Cybrary, COPT and Arris Design. 

This 24,480 SF office space almost tripled the size of Cybrary’s previous office space. This tenant fit-out project features reclaimed wood walls with top-of-the-line finishes and inspiring color schemes throughout the space. The renovation included two podcast studios and a feature break area with unique lighting details and banquette seating.  Open seating areas, private offices, conference rooms and huddle/phone rooms make up the rest of the full floor fit-out space. 

The project overcame several challenges, including being completed during the pandemic. Another challenge was completing the tenant fit-out space while the base building was still under construction with another general contractor, which required careful coordination and communication. Additionally, the project team had to demobilize during the project due to the base building not receiving permanent power because of continuous delays from PEPCO. This delayed the installation of ceiling tiles, wood, millwork and other finishes, which required the appropriate temperature control to be properly installed and maintained. The project was completed on an accelerated timeline, and the project team worked to resequence those items to ensure the project maintained its schedule.
